In an unexpected move away from the pitch, football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has stepped into the international diplomatic spotlight by sending a powerful message of peace to U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Portuguese striker offered a signed Portugal national team jersey with the inscription: “To President Donald J. Trump. Playing for peace.”

The jersey was delivered by European Council President and fellow Portuguese politician, Antonio Costa, during the ongoing G7 summit in Canada.
A photograph from the summit showed President Trump and Costa holding the signed jersey, with the peace message clearly visible.

The gesture comes at a time of increasing strain between Israel and Iran, as world leaders struggle to prevent further escalation.
President Trump, who exited the G7 gathering earlier than scheduled, reaffirmed his efforts on social media, writing: “We will have PEACE, soon, between Israel and Iran! Many calls and meetings now taking place.”
Speaking to journalists, Trump rejected the idea of a temporary solution, stating: “I’m not looking for a ceasefire, we’re looking at better than a ceasefire.”
He also issued a veiled threat, warning Iran to abandon its nuclear aspirations within 48 hours: “You’re going to find out over the next two days.”
