Bauchi govt bans farming on road setbacks, open spaces

Must read

The Bauchi State Government has officially prohibited all forms of farming along road setbacks and in open spaces within urban areas of the state.

This directive was announced in a statement issued on Friday by Yahaya Waziri, the Public Relations Officer of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA).

According to Waziri, the move is aimed at promoting a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all residents.

He noted that farming activities on roadsides, green areas, and designated open spaces obstruct drainage systems, degrade the environment, and distort the aesthetics of the urban landscape.

“Residents are advised to desist from cultivating crops or engaging in any form of farming on public road setbacks, medians, green areas, and other spaces earmarked for beautification and urban development,” the statement read.

Waziri added that BASEPA would begin strict monitoring and enforcement to ensure full compliance with the directive.

He warned that violators would be sanctioned in line with existing environmental laws in the state.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the environment and ensuring a healthier, more sustainable living space for all residents.
