Social commentator and activist, Mahdi Shehu, has expressed deep concern over the recurring violence in Benue State, warning that the continued bloodshed threatens the unity and peace of the country.
Reacting via his X handle (formerly Twitter), Shehu condemned the attacks, which have claimed dozens of lives in recent days, describing them as not only unacceptable but dangerous to Nigeria’s fragile cohesion.
He wrote, “This situation is not just intolerable—it’s dangerous and undermines our national unity and peaceful coexistence.”
The recent violence, widely believed to be retaliatory in nature, has left several communities in Benue mourning the loss of innocent residents.
Shehu urged leaders at all levels to confront the crisis head-on and set aside political hesitation.
“It is imperative that those in leadership positions summon the courage to act swiftly and decisively. If not addressed, the crisis could have dire consequences for the country as a whole,” he cautioned.
