Anti-Tinubu coalition moves to establish new party, eyes 2027 Presidency

Must read

A political coalition opposed to President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) is taking concrete steps to form a new political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The proposed party, to be called the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), is being pushed as a platform to unseat the current administration.

This move is being championed by the League of Northern Democrats (LND), a key player in the coalition, which has embarked on consultations with influential Nigerian leaders to garner support for the initiative.

Among those visited are former military leader Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd), ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Defence Minister Gen. TY Danjuma (rtd).

Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the LND, explained that the idea for ADA emerged from these engagements, where the elder statesmen advised expanding the coalition’s reach beyond northern Nigeria to foster broader national unity.

He said the LND has now aligned with the National Opposition Coalition Movement, headed by Senator David Mark, to work towards a common political goal.

Ardo noted that a committee set up by the coalition has completed its assignment and recommended ADA as the name for the new party.

“We are committed to creating a political platform that will restore the hopes Nigerians had in 2015 but which were dashed under the APC administration,” Ardo said in Abuja.

Responding to recent comments by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who dismissed the opposition movement as lacking traction, Ardo said Wike’s remarks were premature.

“Our message to the minister is simple: time will tell. Once ADA is formally adopted and registered, it will mark the beginning of a new political era in Nigeria. We are confident that the party will secure overwhelming support across all regions by 2027,” he said.

Ardo further stated that the coalition is determined to deliver a strong challenge to the APC and that the proposed ADA party will play a central role in that effort.

“We will prove that this movement is not only alive but poised to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape,” he added.
