A North-East stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State turned chaotic on Sunday following internal disagreements about the 2027 presidential endorsement.
AFRIPOST gathered that the gathering, held in Gombe’s capital, brought together prominent party figures, including Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, Yobe’s Mai Mala Buni, and Gombe’s Inuwa Yahaya.
APC’s National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and his deputy, Dr Ali Bukar Dalori, were also present, along with thousands of party supporters.
Tensions escalated when Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the APC’s National Vice Chairman for the North-East, voiced support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid but failed to mention Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Salihu’s omission during his speech sparked outrage among delegates, who shouted him down and nearly assaulted him before security officers whisked him away.
Disgruntled participants accused Salihu of deliberately sidelining Shettima and disrupting the region’s unity.
Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation intensified into physical clashes, prompting security forces to step in and restore peace.
Despite the uproar, the party continued with the endorsement process.
Governor Babagana Zulum praised the Tinubu administration, citing significant progress in healthcare, education, women and youth empowerment, and economic reforms.
