Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly held another meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a fresh move aimed at resolving the lingering political crisis in the state.
Sources familiar with the development revealed to Daily Post that Fubara visited Wike at his Abuja residence on Monday.
Although an old photograph of the two surfaced online, a source who requested anonymity clarified that while the image was not recent, the meeting itself did take place earlier in the week.
The visit is seen as part of Fubara’s renewed effort to reconcile with his former political ally and other stakeholders following a deepening power struggle that has rocked Rivers politics since 2023.
The fallout between Fubara and Wike—his predecessor—over influence and control in the state triggered widespread tension, which later spread to the state legislature, causing a split in the House of Assembly.
In response to the growing unrest, President Bola Tinubu on March 18, 2025, placed the state under emergency rule and suspended Fubara for six months.
The President appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator to forestall further escalation, amid threats by Niger Delta militants to sabotage oil installations.
Since the suspension, Fubara has made several attempts to broker peace, including private meetings with President Tinubu in London and Lagos, as well as multiple efforts to reach out to Wike.
Following one such engagement, Wike publicly referred to Fubara as his political son and urged him to consult with other power brokers in the state to bring the impasse to an end.
