Wike’s aide slams Dele Momodu over criticism

Must read

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched a scathing response to Dele Momodu, describing the media entrepreneur and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain as someone in urgent need of “rehabilitation.”

Olayinka’s remarks followed Momodu’s comments during a televised interview on Wednesday, in which the Ovation Magazine publisher questioned Wike’s role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle.

Momodu had said, “Where was Wike during the June 12 struggle? Who knew him then? But today, he speaks as if he’s the founding father.”

In a statement released Thursday, Olayinka dismissed Momodu’s remarks as baseless, suggesting the PDP chieftain has become obsessed with Wike.

“Dele Momodu now sees Wike in everything – even in his sleep. His condition has seemingly evolved from psychological to psychotic. He clearly needs urgent help before things get worse,” Olayinka said.

He also questioned Momodu’s self-proclaimed role in the June 12 democracy movement, saying the publisher merely used the struggle as an excuse to flee the country.

“Let’s stop the false narratives. Dele Momodu did not genuinely fight for June 12. He simply used it as a ticket to escape Nigeria for his personal gain,” Olayinka said.

The aide further accused Momodu of hypocrisy, citing his past affiliations with Nigeria’s military elites and controversial figures.

“Those who truly fought for June 12 would never glamorize the children of the man who detained MKO Abiola until his death, nor would they visit the lavish homes of military generals to take glossy photos for publication,” he said, referencing Momodu’s Ovation International magazine.

“If we’re compiling a list of genuine June 12 activists, Dele Momodu’s name should not be there. He hustled on the back of that struggle and is now rewriting history to suit his ambitions,” Olayinka added.

The heated exchange comes amid internal tensions in the PDP, where Wike and Momodu have often found themselves on opposing sides of party matters.
