Authorities have confirmed that one individual survived the tragic crash of a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad airport in India.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told news agency ANI that the lone survivor, seated in 11A, is currently receiving medical care.

“He has been in the hospital and is under treatment,” Malik stated.

The passenger manifest previously released by officials identifies the occupant of seat 11A as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a British citizen.

Indian media outlets have reportedly spoken with Vishwash at the hospital, where he provided a copy of his boarding pass confirming his identity and seat number. Describing the horror, he told reporters:

“Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.”

The aircraft, a US-built Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, went down moments after departure, prompting a global response.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced it will take the lead in coordinating a U.S. investigative team to support the crash inquiry.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the NTSB affirmed its involvement and noted that the Indian authorities are cooperating under international aviation protocols set by the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization.

In addition, UK officials have moved swiftly to participate in the investigation.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) of the United Kingdom said it has “formally offered its assistance” to India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau.

With British nationals on board, the AAIB confirmed it will hold expert status in the probe.

“We are deploying a multidisciplinary investigation team to India to support the Indian-led investigation.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic accident,” the AAIB stated.
