Authorities in Niger State have apprehended six young men suspected of engaging in thuggery, public disturbance, and unlawful possession of weapons in Minna, the state’s capital.
This development was confirmed in a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday.
“Following the reports of thuggery in the Tunga area of Minna on 9th June 2025, consequently, on 11th June 2025, between the period of 2am to 4am, police operatives attached to Tudun-Wada Division conducted a raid operation in the premises of some identified miscreants terrorising Tudun-Wada North and its environs, and one Abdulwahab Suleiman of Behind Nau’zo area Tunga was arrested,” Abiodun said.
He further disclosed that during the course of interrogation, Suleiman identified five other accomplices believed to be part of the same gang.
The individuals named and arrested include Rabiru Bello, Adamu Nasiru, Aliyu Murtala, Abdullahi Abubakar, and Bello Hassan, all aged between 19 and 20.
According to Abiodun, the suspects were caught with six cutlasses, a knife, a pair of scissors, and items suspected to be cannabis.
He stated that the suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further legal proceedings.
