The North-Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has again encouraged Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to switch allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC, following instructions from the party’s national hierarchy.
In a statement delivered yesterday in Abuja, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, who chairs the Forum, said the move is a strategic step aimed at bolstering the APC’s strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Our campaign is based on a directive from above. Governor Caleb Mutfwang is progressive, and we believe he belongs in our great party, the APC,” Zazzaga declared.
He also issued a stern warning to APC figures in Plateau who may be resisting the push, cautioning them against actions that could hinder the party’s progress.
“Those who have constituted themselves as cogs in the wheel of progress must tread with caution.
“No intimidation or blackmail will stop us from pursuing what is in the best interest of the APC,” he warned.
Responding to accusations from some party members who labelled the Forum’s actions as disloyal and demanded disciplinary action against Zazzaga, the group maintained its position, stating that their efforts align with the party’s broader vision.
“Calling on a sitting governor to join the APC is not anti-party activity.
“On the contrary, it should be commended by all who want the party to grow,” the Forum responded.
Zazzaga stressed that inviting like-minded leaders such as Mutfwang would greatly enhance the APC’s reach and governance in the North-Central region.
He further pointed to the recent defections of governors from Delta and Akwa Ibom states as proof of the ongoing political shift and urged Plateau not to be sidelined.
“Don’t allow Plateau to be left behind in the wave of political realignment sweeping the country,” he advised.
