Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed that more members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will defect to the ruling party.
However, the former Senate pledged his full commitment to revamping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and resolving its ongoing internal turmoil.
Saraki, who now leads the party’s newly formed reconciliation committee, acknowledged that while efforts are being made to unify the party, some members may still defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday Saraki emphasized the importance of healing divisions within the PDP, particularly as the party continues to face fallout from the 2023 elections, including disputes involving the G-5 governors, Minister Nyesom Wike, and former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Despite these internal issues, Saraki asserted that the PDP remains the strongest opposition force in the country.
“Some members of the party (PDP) might still defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC),” Saraki said. “I’m also confident that politicians from other political parties might also join the PDP.”
He continued: “The only viable opposition party is PDP, and yes, there are challenges, and I have taken it upon myself to do my best. I am seeing responses from our colleagues who are also ready to settle our differences.”
Reaffirming his commitment to party unity, Saraki added, “I want to use this opportunity to reassure our members across the country that we are doing our best to rescue the party’s situation. We are confident that we will tackle the situation. We are committed to it.”
