The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of three senior figures within the ranks of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during coordinated offensives in Borno State.
An official update shared via the Army’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle revealed the identities of the eliminated insurgents as Amir Abu Ali, Amir Ibunu, and Amir Abu Waldume.
The operations, carried out early Thursday in the towns of Mallam Fatori and Buratai, were part of Operation HADIN KAI, a sustained military campaign targeting terrorist enclaves in Nigeria’s northeast.
In addition to the deaths of the high-profile insurgents, numerous other fighters from both Boko Haram and ISWAP were reportedly neutralized in the intense exchange of fire.
Mallam Fatori, one of the operation’s locations, has been a recurring flashpoint in the conflict against extremism, positioned strategically near the Nigerian-Niger border.
The area made headlines in January 2025 after a deadly ISWAP-led suicide attack claimed the lives of 27 soldiers.
The successful elimination of the three commanders is being viewed as a significant tactical achievement that could hinder the operational structure of the terror networks.
The military pledged to sustain momentum in its counter-terrorism drive and indicated that more information would be released as the mission unfolds.
