Massive competition as over 450,000 Nigerians apply for 10,000 Federal jobs

Must read

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has been overwhelmed with applications, as more than 450,000 Nigerians have expressed interest in securing jobs within the federal civil service.

However, the number of available positions is reportedly under 10,000.

The recruitment process, which began in January 2025, was formally announced through a public notice signed by Ogaba Ede, the Director of Recruitment and Appointment.

The notice listed more than 70 different roles open for application.

Some of the roles advertised include Administrative Officers, Programme Analysts, Education Officers, Dentists, Procurement Officers, and Medical Laboratory Scientists. Others include Nursing Officers, Radiographers, State Counsels, Fisheries Officers, and Computer Engineers.

Additional positions range from Psychologists and Surveyors to Foreign Affairs Officers and Aerodrome Engineers.

Eligible Nigerians were invited to apply through the commission’s official recruitment portal. Although the original deadline for submissions was March 10, it was extended by a week to March 17, 2025, to allow more applicants to complete the process.

Despite the extension, many candidates encountered difficulties accessing the portal.

An official from the FCSC, who preferred not to be named, confirmed that less than 10,000 positions are available, and only those who meet the required criteria would move to the next stage.

“More than 450,000 people submitted applications, but the available slots are fewer than 10,000,” the official said.

“Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you don’t receive a message, it means you weren’t selected.”

The official also revealed that a Computer-Based Test (CBT) would be conducted for those shortlisted, with the exercise scheduled to take place in various states across the country.

Candidates will see their results immediately after completing the test, and there will be no opportunity to reschedule.

When contacted, the Commission’s spokesperson, Taiwo Hassan, said that official details about the recruitment process would be made public in due time.
