Suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly assault on Tyoshin, a community in Naka, the administrative centre of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State, on Sunday night, leaving several people feared dead.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the area under the cover of night, catching residents off guard and unleashing violence on the community.
Though the exact death toll had yet to be confirmed at the time of this report, accounts from locals described the incident as deeply harrowing.
Among the casualties was a local man identified as Monday Dooden. His brother, Akawe Francis, took to social media to express his grief, revealing their family’s long struggle with insecurity.
“Monday Dooden, my brother, we ran away from the village because of Fulani attacks to Naka over 10 years ago, but we didn’t escape. Last night you were killed by the same Fulani,” Francis wrote.
Tragically, the Tyoshin massacre was not the only attack that day. Earlier on Sunday, another group of suspected herders reportedly struck in Edikwu Ankpali, located in Apa Local Government Area, where several other lives were allegedly lost.
