Benue youths protest abduction of female passengers, block major road

Must read

Residents of Owukpa, a community in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, took to the streets on Monday in protest following the recent kidnapping of local traders.

AFRIPOST had reported yesterday that armed individuals suspected to be herdsmen intercepted a Benue Links bus over the weekend, abducting several women along the Owukpa–Orokam route.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. close to Eyiupi village while the victims were returning from Orba market in Enugu State.

Eyewitnesses say the assailants ambushed the commercial vehicle and forcefully took away the female passengers, most of whom were adults and youths.

As of now, no ransom demand or communication has been made by the abductors to the families of the victims.

In reaction, irate youths blocked the Orokam-Owukpa-Okpoga road, urging government authorities to step in immediately.

The protest has left many travellers stranded, with the demonstrators refusing to allow movement in or out of the community.
