The Katsina State Government has requested the cancellation of the recently conducted English Language paper administered by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
This demand comes in the wake of widespread delays that disrupted the examination process across the country on Wednesday, causing the paper to start several hours later than scheduled.
The state’s stance was made public in Katsina by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Zainab Musa-Musawa, during an official visit to the WAEC office in the state.
The request was supported by a formal petition signed by Ummukhair Ahmed, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry.
WAEC has attributed the delay to intensified efforts aimed at curbing examination malpractice and preventing the leakage of question papers.
According to Musa-Musawa, students in Katsina were forced to sit for the examination late at night under poor lighting conditions, relying on torchlights, phone flashlights, and security lights.
She urged schools, parents, and the general public to remain calm while awaiting the response to the petition submitted to WAEC.
