Nine kidnapped commuters have been rescued in Uvuru-Ukpata forest, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, following a coordinated operation by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command.

The victims were abducted along the Olo-Umulokpa Road, prompting swift action by law enforcement.

According to the police, operatives trailed the kidnappers to their hideout and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, ultimately overpowering the gang and freeing all captives.

The rescue mission forms part of a wider security crackdown in the region.

Earlier in May, police had rescued two other victims from a forest in Amalla-Egazi, who were kidnapped on May 16 at Ezimo community.

Police spokesperson ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi hailed the operation as another testament to the unwavering efforts of security forces in combating crime.

“Our officers displayed courage and tactical brilliance during the operation. The successful rescue is a major victory against criminal elements threatening our communities,” he stated.

All rescued victims have been safely reunited with their loved ones.
