Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has provided N5 million to each family of eight Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operatives who died in a recent explosion along the Dikwa–Marte road.

During a condolence visit to the grieving families in Maiduguri on Friday, Governor Zulum expressed his administration’s deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended full educational scholarships to the children of the deceased.

The CJTF members, who were assisting military efforts in the fight against insurgents in the North-East, were killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on duty earlier in the week.

“As a token of our appreciation and support, the state government is offering N5 million to each affected family to help them cope with the immediate impact of this loss,” Zulum announced.

“We are also committed to covering the full educational needs of the children left behind. Where there are no children, other dependents will be considered for assistance.”

The governor hailed the deceased as heroes who gave their lives in defence of their communities, noting that their sacrifice would not be forgotten.

He assured the bereaved families that the government would continue to stand by them and prayed for strength and comfort as they mourn their loved ones.

The CJTF operatives died while performing their duties, highlighting the continued dangers faced by those on the frontlines of the fight against terrorism in the region.
