The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has called Nigerian musician and social media star Darlington Okoye, widely known as Speed Darlington, for questioning.
In a formal letter dated May 28, the agency requested Okoye’s presence to address concerns raised by a viral video in which he allegedly confessed to engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
Titled “Invitation for Clarification on Online Content Involving Alleged Sexual Offenses with a Minor,” the letter references a widely circulated Instagram video where Okoye claimed a hotel worker cleaned bloodstained sheets following his encounter with a minor.
The video sparked widespread condemnation from Nigerians online and offline.
In a follow-up video, Okoye retracted his statement, asserting the content was made for publicity purposes.
However, NAPTIP emphasized that, if verified, his actions could violate the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA) 2015 and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
Okoye has been directed to appear at NAPTIP’s headquarters at 2028 Dalaba Crescent, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. for an interview.
The agency also advised him to bring legal counsel or any relevant documents to support his case during the investigation.
