The Court of Appeal in Abuja has confirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo as the legitimately elected Governor of Edo State, rejecting the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
Delivering the ruling on Thursday, Justice Mohammed Danjuma held that the appeal lacked substance and did not demonstrate any error in the earlier verdict by the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which had dismissed the petition brought by the PDP and Ighodalo.
According to the appellate court, the gubernatorial election held on September 24, 2024, was properly conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Okpebholo’s declaration as winner followed due process.
The judgment was unanimously agreed upon by the panel of three justices, who found no compelling reason to overturn the tribunal’s decision.
