APC faction demands Benue Governor’s expulsion over party sabotage

Must read

A faction within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), known as the APC League, has called for the immediate expulsion of Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, accusing him of gross misconduct and betrayal of party ideals.

In a statement released by its national president, John Ogiri, the APC League alleged that Governor Alia has consistently acted against the party’s interest, fostering disunity and weakening internal cohesion in Benue State.

The group pointed to his noticeable absence at the recent APC National Summit at the State House, where 21 other APC governors showed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, as a clear indicator of his disconnect from the national leadership.

They dismissed explanations offered by his media aides as inadequate and misleading.

According to the statement, Governor Alia has sidelined the state’s APC leadership and refused to hold meetings with the party’s State Executive Committee.

The group further accused him of secretly working with opposition figures like Senator Gabriel Suswam and former governor Nasir El-Rufai, individuals viewed as adversarial to APC’s goals in Benue and beyond.

The APC League also raised concerns about Alia’s rumoured plans to defect from the APC to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming that his allies are already deeply involved in ADC activities.

His alleged refusal to engage with the party’s reconciliation mechanisms, initiated by the National Working Committee (NWC), was cited as further evidence of his disloyalty.

They warned that Alia’s ongoing actions threaten the survival of the APC in Benue and demanded his immediate removal to preserve party unity and discipline.

“The party must act now or risk further fragmentation in Benue State,” the group concluded.
