Residents of Grow Homes Estate in the Chikakore area of Kubwa, Abuja, were thrown into panic in the early hours of Monday when a gang of armed kidnappers stormed the community.
AFRIPOST gathered that the terrifying incident unfolded between 12:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., with residents describing it a night of fear and helplessness.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, heavily armed and coordinated, overwhelmed the local vigilante group guarding the area.
A resident recounted, “The incident happened around 12 a.m. Those guys were well-armed, and they overpowered the local vigilance team.”
At least seven people were reportedly kidnapped, although only a man and a woman were initially confirmed taken.
Interestingly, the woman was found later this morning within the estate, released by her captors for unknown reasons.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives have yet to issue a statement on the latest attack; also, calls put through to the Abuja police spokesperson to give more details on the attack went unanswered.
Meanwhile, residents have called on authorities for urgent intervention: “We are begging the government to fix this road for easy access for security patrol vehicles.
“We also beg the police and, of course, the FCT Administration to help site a station here for rapid response.”
