JUST IN: I’ll fight for justice – Wike withdraws from PDP agreements

Must read

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has declared his decision to retract from all previously agreed arrangements within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming ongoing mistrust and dishonesty among leading members for the party’s current crisis.

Wike identified the root of the PDP’s instability as the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, highlighting repeated breaches of agreements and a lack of faith among key players as major issues.

Several high-level meetings took place involving Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Umaru Fintri, Bala Mohammed, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Wike himself, aimed at resolving these disputes.

At a Lagos meeting, Wike directly held Governor Makinde responsible for the party’s difficulties due to his failure to honor commitments.

A subsequent expanded meeting at Saraki’s Abuja residence saw heated exchanges, with Wike accusing Governor Bala Mohammed of repeatedly breaking promises while serving as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

The meetings culminated in important decisions intended to restore stability, including confirming Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary in line with Supreme Court rulings, withdrawing all legal actions involving Rivers State, and ending a State of Emergency suit.

All parties also pledged to adhere strictly to these agreements.

However, Wike expressed profound disappointment over what he described as blatant breaches of the consensus.

He accused Governor Makinde and Peter Mba from Enugu State of orchestrating a meeting of South-East leaders to insist on the appointment of Ude Okoye as National Secretary—a move Wike firmly opposed.

Other violations pointed out included efforts to appoint the Deputy National Secretary as acting National Secretary, contrary to prior agreements, conflicting party communications about the confirmation of the PDP governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State elections, and the disruption of a zonal elective congress in Jos on May 24 due to irregularities in official documents that led to INEC declining to participate.

Wike lamented the betrayal by fellow party members, underscoring his long-standing commitment to the PDP since 1998 and his significant contributions to the electoral victories of several governors, all without seeking personal benefit.

Frustrated by the continuous scheming—especially in relation to the North-Central zonal elections—he announced his withdrawal from all previous accords and vowed to persist in his quest for justice within the party.
