2027: CUPP criticizes APC Govs’ endorsement of Tinubu

Must read

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has strongly criticized the recent endorsement of President Bola Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate for 2027 by governors under the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a desperate and panicked political maneuver.

In a statement issued late Thursday by CUPP’s National Secretary, Peter Ameh, the coalition expressed alarm over the endorsement, saying it reflects growing anxiety within the ruling party.

According to Ameh, “The motion presented during the APC National Policy and Development Summit by Imo State Governor and chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, proposing President Tinubu as the sole 2027 candidate—and seconded by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani—has sparked significant concern among Nigerians.”

He argued that such a move, coming just two years into Tinubu’s administration, highlights internal instability and fear within the APC, particularly in light of public discontent with the country’s economic conditions.

“This early endorsement does not reflect the will of the people, who will ultimately determine the next president through the ballot,” he said.

Ameh claimed that the decision by APC leaders reveals a disconnect from ordinary Nigerians and a lack of confidence in the electorate’s support.

“Many citizens see this as a troubling sign that the APC is out of touch and trying to impose a political outcome rather than allowing the democratic process to unfold naturally,” he stated.

He also emphasized that Nigerians remain committed to defending democracy and will resist any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 elections.

“The setbacks experienced during the 2023 elections have only strengthened the people’s resolve. We are prepared to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and ensure our votes count.”

Ameh concluded by urging Nigerians to stay alert and united in the effort to uphold democratic values, stressing that the 2027 general elections will be pivotal for the future of the nation.
