A 49-year-old truck driver, Azeez Ogunrinde, was on Thursday brought before a Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja over allegations of damaging a truck belonging to his employer.

The defendant, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge involving malicious damage and conduct likely to breach public peace.

According to the police prosecutor, Superintendent Josephine Ikhayere, the incident occurred between April 22 and April 24 while Ogunrinde was in transit across various locations in Lagos.

The court was told that the driver allegedly used a truck marked SMK 914 XW, owned by GPC Energy and Logistics Ltd., without the company’s permission.

He reportedly transported unauthorized goods during the journey, without notifying his employer.

The prosecutor further alleged that Ogunrinde disconnected the vehicle’s tracking system to carry out the unauthorized delivery.

The truck’s axle was later found damaged, which the company attributed to excessive load weight.

Ikhayere said the driver’s actions violated Sections 168(d) and 350 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015, and she requested time for a full review of the case and to prepare her witnesses.

Ogunrinde pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Presiding Magistrate Lateef Owolabi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000, with two sureties in the same amount.

The case was adjourned until June 5 for further hearing.
