Bandits lay siege on Zamfara highway, kill one passenger, abduct another

A deadly assault by armed bandits occurred Wednesday on the Anka–Mayanchi road in Zamfara State, claiming one life, injuring two others, and resulting in the abduction of a passenger.

The attack, which took place between Bobo and Yashar Rogo villages in Talata Mafara LGA, targeted two golf vehicles carrying multiple passengers, sources informed Zagazola Makama.

The gunmen reportedly opened fire on the vehicles without warning. One passenger died on the spot, while two others sustained gunshot wounds. Another traveler was taken hostage during the chaos.

Community members and vigilante groups later arrived, rushed the wounded to a nearby hospital, and arranged funeral rites for the deceased.

Security forces have since begun search operations to rescue the abducted victim, though efforts were still ongoing at the time of this report.

The Anka, Mayanchi corridor has remained a hotspot for bandit activity, with attacks becoming alarmingly frequent in recent weeks.
