99 Indonesian Hajj pilgrims contract pneumonia in Saudi Arabia, one dead

Must read

The Indonesian Ministry of Health has confirmed that 99 of its citizens performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia have been diagnosed with pneumonia, with one fatality already recorded.

According to Liliek Susilo, head of the ministry’s Hajj Health Centre, “The rise in pneumonia cases among our hajj pilgrims needs careful attention because it can get worse if not treated fast and correctly.”

The patients are reportedly being treated at medical facilities in Mecca and Medina, where they are receiving close medical attention.

Susilo attributed the rise in infections to extreme temperatures, reaching as high as 47°C, combined with fatigue, overcrowding, and pre-existing health conditions among some pilgrims.

To prevent further cases, she advised pilgrims to wear face masks, maintain hand hygiene, stay hydrated, and stick to their medication schedules.

She also urged them to preserve their strength, avoid smoking, and promptly report any signs of illness.
