2025 Budget: Wike vows to complete 14 major road projects in FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has allocated a significant portion of the proposed N1.78 trillion 2025 FCT statutory budget towards the completion of 14 key road infrastructure projects across the capital.

Wike revealed this on Wednesday while appearing before the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on the FCT to defend the proposed budget for the coming fiscal year.

He explained that of the total budget, N1.28 trillion—representing 72.3%—has been designated for capital projects, while N494.1 billion, or 27.7%, will go toward recurrent expenditures.

According to the minister, the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) will be responsible for executing the road projects, which span both the city centre and surrounding satellite communities.

The FCDA is set to receive N801.5 billion, while N137 billion has been earmarked for the STDD.

Wike listed some of the major projects that will be completed under the 2025 budget to include the ongoing construction of Roads B6 and B12, as well as the full-scale development of Arterial Road N20 stretching from Northern Parkway to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX).

Additional projects include the provision of engineering infrastructure to Guzape, Wuye, and Maitama II districts, the extension of the Inner Southern Expressway (ISEX) from Southern Parkway to Ring Road II, and the comprehensive development of FCT Highway 105 (Kuje Road) from the Airport Expressway to the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), including a spur at Kyami District.

Also scheduled for completion are the construction of the Northern Parkway from Ring Road II to Ring Road III (6.2km), further works on Arterial Road N20 from Arterial Road N5, and the rehabilitation of the Old Keffi Road.

Other ongoing initiatives include the development of Arterial Road N1 linking Wuye District to Ring Road II, construction of access roads to bus terminals, and the dualisation and upgrade of the Ushafa-War College/Army Checkpoint Road and adjoining routes.

Projects in rural areas were not left out, with the completion of the Pai to Gomani Road in Kwali Area Council and the dualisation of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road also included.

Wike assured lawmakers that all 14 road projects would be fast-tracked and completed within the 2025 fiscal year.

He added that the completion of these projects would significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve travel time within and outside the FCT.
