Angry youths are currently disrupting daily activities in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, after police officers allegedly shot and killed Emmanuella Ahenjir, a 23-year-old final-year student at the Federal University, Wukari.
The tragic event occurred last Friday morning at the Wurukum roundabout, where Emmanuella was reportedly inside a vehicle coming from the Gyado Villa area when she was gunned down by unknown members of the police force.
Angered by the incident, scores of young protesters, led by gender rights advocate Ukan Kurugh, took to the streets to demand justice on Wednesday.
The demonstrators converged at the scene of the killing, holding signs that read “Justice for Emmanuella” and “End Police Brutality.”
Their demands include an urgent, transparent investigation and immediate accountability from the authorities.
