El-Rufai confirms alliance between Atiku, Obi to challenge Tinubu in 2027

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has verified the formation of a new political alliance featuring former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi.

The trio aims to dislodge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.

Speaking on Wednesday at the Arewa TechFest in Katsina, El-Rufai revealed that a pivotal meeting had taken place the previous night at 8 PM, where significant progress was made in solidifying the coalition’s plans.

AFRIPOST gathered that the opposition leaders have agreed to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their unifying political platform.

Their approach seeks to merge support from across the nation’s six geopolitical zones while drawing in civil society organisations, professionals, and disillusioned political factions.

An insider disclosed that the decision to unite under the ADC banner was finalised after extended deliberations lasting into the early hours of Wednesday.

Despite aligning with the new bloc, El-Rufai noted that the current Minister of Communications, Bosun Tijani, would continue in office, commending his performance.

The alliance is seen as a reconciliation among former rivals whose fragmented efforts in 2023 paved the way for Tinubu’s emergence.

Combined, Atiku and Obi amassed a vote count that surpassed Tinubu’s total of 8.7 million, signalling the potential strength of a united opposition.
