Chris Brown released on bail over alleged nightclub assault in London

American R&B artist Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London court following accusations of assaulting a music producer at a Mayfair nightclub in 2023.

The 36-year-old singer, who has won two Grammy Awards, was charged with grievous bodily harm after reportedly striking the producer with a tequila bottle inside Tape nightclub. The alleged attack has been described as unprovoked.

Brown, who was arrested in Salford last week, remained in custody until Wednesday when a judge at Southwark Crown Court approved his bail under strict financial terms.

The court ordered him to immediately pay £4 million, with an additional £1 million due within a week.

As part of his bail terms, Brown is allowed to proceed with his world tour, which begins on June 8 in Amsterdam and includes performances in several UK cities such as Manchester, London, and Glasgow. He is not required to enter a plea at this stage.

The court also imposed several restrictions, including a ban from visiting the nightclub involved in the case, a requirement to live at a court-approved address, and a condition to avoid any contact with the alleged victim.

He must surrender his passport when not actively travelling and is barred from seeking international travel documents.

Brown is expected to return to court on June 20, in between scheduled performances in Cardiff and London. He will appear alongside his co-accused, 38-year-old US musician Omololu Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby.
