BREAKING: TUC members lay siege to finance ministry over unpaid benefits

In a dramatic show of discontent, members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria staged a protest on Tuesday by barricading the entrance of the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja.

The aggrieved unionists, clad in striking red T-shirts, effectively shut down all movement into and out of the ministry’s premises, causing disruptions to regular governmental activities.

Though none of the protesting workers addressed the press directly, the messages on their placards pointed to grievances related to unpaid arrears, delayed allowances, and unfulfilled emolument promises by the federal government.

The demonstration, which appeared highly organised, drew attention to what the TUC members perceive as a longstanding neglect of workers’ welfare in key government institutions.

This protest underscores growing frustration among civil servants over persistent delays in financial entitlements, particularly amid economic hardships and rising inflation.

As of the time of reporting, government officials at the Ministry of Finance had not issued a response to the development.
