Terror strikes church in Kebbi as armed men kidnap worshippers mid-service

A peaceful Sunday morning turned tragic in Zagami village, located in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as gunmen suspected to be part of the dreaded Lakurawa gang stormed a church service and abducted several worshippers.

Eyewitness accounts say the attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened fire sporadically, throwing the congregation into panic before dragging an unknown number of people into a nearby forest.

One of the survivors, Mr. Ezekiel Danjuma, described the ordeal as horrifying. He said the assailants came in droves and surrounded the worship center before launching their violent assault.

“It was horrifying. They stormed in shooting and forced the doors open. While some of us managed to slip out from the back, many others were not so lucky,” Danjuma recounted.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Zagami community, a quiet, agrarian settlement within the Kebbi South Senatorial District that includes areas like Fakai, Zuru, and Shanga.

Authorities have yet to make any official comments, but locals are calling for urgent action from the state government and security forces to secure the release of those taken and to prevent future incidents.
