One confirm dead, three rescued in Lagos building collapse

A construction site tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon at Idi Araba, Mushin area of Lagos State, when a one-storey building under construction suddenly gave way, resulting in the death of one worker and the rescue of three others.

The incident took place around 3:30 pm, according to Ibrahim Farinloye, coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Territorial Office.

In a statement, Farinloye confirmed that rescue efforts are still ongoing following the collapse.

“To date, one individual has been confirmed dead while three others have been successfully rescued alive. Search and rescue operations continue at the site,” he said.

Shakiru Amodu, spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, also verified the fatality. “Sadly, an adult male was recovered deceased from the rubble,” he told reporters.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Fire Service, explained in a release that the building was still being constructed when it collapsed.

She confirmed that three adult males were pulled from the debris and are now receiving medical care.

The statement further detailed: “The collapse occurred at a construction site on the one-storey building located at 96 Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque, Mushin. The emergency call was received at about 3:30 pm.”

Multiple agencies responded promptly, including the Isolo Fire Station, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,
