Ondo APC seeks justice for slain party ward chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has called on security agencies to urgently investigate and apprehend those responsible for the killing of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the party’s chairman in Ward 5, Ifon, in Ose Local Government Area.

Mr. Adepoyigi was reportedly murdered by kidnappers after being abducted last week at the entrance of his farm along the Ifon-Owo Road.

Despite an initial ransom demand of N100 million, the victim’s family managed to raise N5 million.

The abductors detained the two individuals who delivered the ransom and later demanded an additional N30 million before eventually killing Adepoyigi and releasing the other two captives.

Reacting to the tragedy, the state APC chairman, Mr. Ade Adetimehin, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Steve Otaloro, expressed deep sorrow and condemned the act.

He urged security agencies to take immediate steps to track down and arrest the perpetrators.

“The Ondo State chapter of the APC mourns the loss of one of its own, Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, who was abducted and, according to disturbing reports, killed by his captors. We await official confirmation from security agencies, but we are deeply unsettled by this tragic development,” the statement read.

The party further urged law enforcement to ramp up operations in forested areas believed to be hideouts for criminal gangs, citing credible reports from those involved in the ransom delivery.

“Our communities are under threat, and swift, decisive action is necessary to protect innocent citizens and restore peace,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr. Clement Ojo, who confirmed the killing in a separate statement on Sunday, described the incident as devastating.

He lamented the increasing insecurity in the area, which he said has reached an alarming level.

“We are relieved that the two individuals held with him have regained their freedom, but the loss of Mr. Adepoyigi is a painful blow. The people of Ose mourn his death and extend condolences to his family and associates,” Ojo said.

He also warned that the frequency of abductions — even near people’s homes — highlights the urgent need for a stronger security response.

“This tragic incident shows that insecurity in the area has reached an intolerable level,” he stated.

Ojo praised the late Adepoyigi’s dedication to the APC and his efforts at the grassroots level, saying his contributions would not be forgotten.
