Suspected armed robbers stormed Rhythm 94.7FM, a private radio station located in the Swali area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, making away with various items, including phones, audio recorders, and essential broadcast equipment.
The attackers reportedly struck around 4:40 p.m. on Saturday and shockingly returned on Sunday, further deepening fears among staff.
Although no casualties were reported, employees who were on duty during the incident are said to be deeply shaken.
The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has denounced the assault.
In a joint statement, NUJ Chairman Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha and Secretary Comrade Stanley Imgbi described the incident as not only a direct blow to the station but also a threat to media freedom across the state.
They called on law enforcement, especially the State Commissioner of Police, to swiftly apprehend those responsible.
The union also urged the deployment of a patrol team to the vicinity of the radio station to deter future attacks, citing the area’s vulnerability.
