Notorious kidnapper arrested in Lafia, police recover arms cache

Security operatives in Nasarawa State have apprehended a fugitive kidnapper and cattle rustler, Abashe Gizo, during an operation in Shinge Market, Lafia, seizing an AK-49 rifle in the process.

The arrest was made public through a statement on Sunday by SP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state.

He disclosed that Gizo, who had no known address, was a long-sought suspect connected to numerous cases of abduction and livestock theft.

Nansel explained that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) carried out the arrest after receiving credible intelligence.

The suspect was eventually captured on Saturday following an extensive pursuit.

Following his arrest, Gizo confessed to his criminal activities and led officers to his hideout in Ruwan Baka, located in Doma Local Government Area.

There, police recovered an AK-49 rifle bearing serial number 453144 along with a loaded magazine.

This successful operation comes shortly after another major breakthrough in the region — the capture of Fatima Salisu, who was found trafficking ammunition from Doma to Katsina, presumably for use by armed groups.

In response to the growing security concerns, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed reassured the public of the police command’s dedication to eradicating crime and securing communities.

He also encouraged residents to be vigilant and proactive in assisting law enforcement with timely information.
