The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has publicly apologized to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over recent comments made by its former presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Comrade Oginni Olaposi Sunday, the NNPP described Kwankwaso’s statements directed at the Presidency and the APC as inappropriate and not reflective of the party’s official position.
Oginni made it clear that Kwankwaso is no longer affiliated with the NNPP and should not be regarded as either a member or leader of the party.
He pointed out that the NNPP was originally founded and registered by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam in 2002, and not by Kwankwaso.
He also accused the former presidential hopeful and his associates of engaging in activities that misrepresent the NNPP, noting that they have all been expelled and warned to desist from using the party’s name for political confrontations.
“The comments made recently by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are solely the views of his Kwankwasia group, and do not reflect the stance of the NNPP,” the statement emphasized.
Oginni referenced a recent ruling by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, delivered on April 3, 2025, which upheld the leadership of Dr. Aniebonam as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Agbo Gilbert Major as National Chairman.
He said the court verdict had further affirmed the expulsion of Kwankwaso and his camp from the party.
He went on to offer a formal apology to President Tinubu and the leadership of the APC under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, stressing that Kwankwaso’s actions contradict the principles and values the NNPP stands for.
Oginni also noted that other individuals, including Elder Buba Galadima and Dr. Ahmed Ajuji, have likewise ceased to be members of the NNPP—a decision backed by declaratory judgments from courts in both Abia State and the FCT.
He urged the public and media organizations to stop associating Kwankwaso with the NNPP, stating that he now leads only the Kwankwasia group.
He added that there is growing skepticism among Kwankwaso’s followers, especially over the continued withholding of the original registration certificate of the party, which remains in the custody of its founder, Dr. Aniebonam.
Reaffirming its commitment to democratic values, the NNPP stated its readiness to play its role in nation-building through responsible opposition, and distanced itself from divisive and confrontational politics.
