Clement Kolapo Ojo, Chairman of Ose Local Government Area in Ondo State, has confirmed the killing of Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 5 Chairman, who was abducted last week by gunmen at the entrance of his residence.
The kidnappers initially demanded ₦100 million from the family as ransom, but after negotiations, the amount was lowered to ₦5 million.
In an effort to secure Adepoyigi’s release, two individuals volunteered to deliver the ransom but were also taken captive by the kidnappers.
Subsequently, the kidnappers raised their ransom demand to ₦30 million for the release of the two men. However, the two volunteers have since been freed.
Ojo expressed deep sadness over the loss of Adepoyigi, describing it as a significant blow to both the local community and the APC.
He conveyed his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, and party members, stating, “The entire leadership and residents of Ose Local Government share in this profound grief. Nelson’s dedication to the party and his commitment to grassroots development will be fondly remembered.”
The local government chairman also raised alarm over the worsening security situation in the area, citing recent incidents that have put residents’ lives at risk.
“We are facing a serious security crisis that threatens the safety and freedom of our people. Just days before this tragic event, another community member narrowly escaped abduction while parking his motorcycle. These bold attacks, even at people’s doorsteps, highlight the urgent need to address the rising insecurity,” he said.
