The Mindful Well-being Foundation has collaborated with Jars Traumatic Stress Institute, United States of America to stage a rally in order to raise awareness on the dangers of domestic violence, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, and female genital mutilation.
The rally tagged Trauma Walkathon, an event that brought together individuals from all walks of life to promote mental health awareness and trauma prevention, took place in Abuja on Saturday.
Our correspondent reports that despite the early morning rain, participants bravely showed up to walk from Glo Junction to Bannex Plaza, demonstrating their commitment to creating a healthier community.
Founder of Mindful Well-being Foundation and Co-Founder Arraka Wellness Hub Limited, Ganiyat Kareem, while speaking said that the walk, themed “Healthy Communities,” aimed to educate participants on the dangers of domestic violence, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, and female genital mutilation, all of which can contribute to trauma.
She said that that the event highlighted the importance of addressing trauma to prevent long-term mental health consequences.
She said, “The success of the Abuja Trauma Walkathon was made possible by the support of various individuals and organizations, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials. Renowned psychologist Dr. Akindotun Merino from California, Mrs. Bimpe Adenuga, Mrs. Elizabeth Shelm, and Dr. Barr. Khadijah Abimbola were among the key figures who contributed to the event.
“The event graced the attendance of friends and social work colleague including Morenike Oguntokun, Uhnne Iwodi, Mr Seyisola, a social work colleague and Dough Shango-Praise, a trauma and grief counselor for showing their support by attending the walk. Other attendees, friends and social media promoters were also reckoned.
“The event’s organizer expressed heartfelt gratitude to the “Jars team” for their financial and moral support, which was instrumental in making the event a success. The Chima family, who have become like a family to the organizer in Abuja, also showed enthusiasm and support, with their children being particularly energetic and helpful throughout the event.
“As the world continues to grapple with the challenges of mental health, events like the Abuja Trauma Walkathon serve as a reminder of the importance of community-led initiatives in promoting mental health awareness and support.
