Adeleke orders investigation into poorly executed road project in Osun

Must read

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered an investigation into the substandard execution of a 4.76-kilometre road project in the Aduramigba Community, located in the Ido-Osun area of the state.

The governor’s directive followed a peaceful protest by residents on Friday, who expressed outrage over the quality of the construction.

The demonstrators, carrying placards with messages such as “We say no to no drainage and stonebase road” and “We kick against corruption on this project,” decried the absence of a proper drainage system and what they described as shoddy workmanship by the contractor.

Community chairman, Sunday Ogundele, who addressed the protesters, said the road’s condition had already begun to deteriorate within days of its construction.

“They started tarring the road on Sunday and Monday, but by Thursday, rain had already washed away parts of the asphalt. This shows how poor the work is,” he said.

In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, said in a statement that a team comprising senior officials from the Ministries of Works and Rural Development, as well as the Osun Rural Access and Mobility Project, had visited the site for an on-the-spot inspection.

The statement revealed that Governor Adeleke had directed an immediate review of the road project and instructed that remedial actions be taken in line with established engineering standards.

Rasheed added that the government is also considering other development needs of the community.

“The team is currently engaging with the contractor and project managers to gather detailed reports and determine the necessary corrective measures. A report is expected to be submitted to the Governor by Monday, after which additional decisions will be made,” the statement added.
