Security forces in Anambra State successfully foiled an attempted assault on a checkpoint in Isuofia, located in Aguata Local Government Area, late Thursday evening, May 15, 2025.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, two gunmen were gunned down in the exchange of fire, while one officer from the joint security team suffered a fatal injury.

The attackers also set ablaze one of the operational vehicles used by the security agents.

Ikenga revealed that the gunmen, overpowered by the security team’s superior firepower, abandoned a Toyota Sienna vehicle and fled into nearby bushes.

The Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly denounced the attack, describing it as a challenge to the unity and cooperation of residents and security agencies in combating crime.

He further assured the public that the culprits would be tracked down, adding that calm has since been restored in the area.
