Police debunk misconceptions over arrival of 89 Katsina youths in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has addressed concerns raised by a viral video showing a large number of young men gathered near the Dano Company in the Ibeju-Lekki area, dispelling fears of any threat.

In a statement released by the Command, it was revealed that officers promptly responded to the location on May 14, 2025, after the footage began making rounds on social media.

Upon investigation, police confirmed that the 89 individuals captured in the video had journeyed from Katsina State to Lagos for lawful employment opportunities at the Dangote Refinery in Lekki.

A contractor affiliated with the refinery acknowledged that he was responsible for facilitating their recruitment and relocation.

This was corroborated by the refinery’s Chief Security Officer, who confirmed that the workers had been screened and were scheduled to be housed within the refinery’s premises.

Further checks by law enforcement found no contraband among the men, all of whom possessed verifiable National Identification Numbers (NIN), which were authenticated at the scene.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, cautioned the public against spreading unverified information, emphasising the potential for such content to cause unnecessary panic.

He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to ensuring public peace and security, urging residents to remain calm and depend on official sources for accurate updates regarding security developments.
