Kidnappers detain ransom bearers, demand fresh N30m for release of Ondo APC leader

In a startling development in the abduction case of Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward chairman in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, two individuals who delivered a ransom payment have now been captured by the kidnappers.

Adepoyigi, who was initially taken on Monday night while trying to park his car at his residence in Ifon, was reportedly assaulted and whisked away by the assailants.

Negotiations had led to a reduction in the ransom demand—from an initial N100 million to N5 million plus food supplies.

However, sources revealed that the two men—Bayode Loco and Isimeri—who were tasked with delivering the agreed ransom and food items, have also been abducted.

The kidnappers are now demanding a fresh payment of N30 million for the release of all three captives.

A community source who spoke under anonymity said, “The men who went to hand over the ransom were taken hostage by the same kidnappers. Now, they’re asking for N30 million before they release anyone.”

Hon. Kolapo Oja, Chairman of Ose Local Government, earlier confirmed that an agreement had been reached for N5 million and food items to secure Adepoyigi’s release. He, however, expressed concern over the unexpected twist and urged residents to remain calm as efforts are underway to ensure the victims’ safe return.

The situation has plunged the community, especially Adepoyigi’s family and political associates, into renewed anxiety as security operatives continue to work on rescuing the victims.
