JUST IN: Reps launch probe into UTME 2025 results glitch

The House of Representatives has commenced a formal investigation into what it described as a “technical error” that undermined the credibility of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The decision was reached on Thursday during a plenary session, following the presentation of a motion of urgent national concern by Hon. Adewale Adebayo, who represents a constituency in Osun State.

The motion attracted swift and unanimous support from fellow lawmakers who expressed deep concern over the integrity of Nigeria’s educational assessment systems.

Adebayo stressed that the malfunction had led to confusion, anxiety, and unfair treatment of thousands of candidates who sat for the crucial examination administered by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

He noted that such glitches could erode public trust in standardised testing and adversely affect the future of Nigerian youths seeking admission into higher institutions.

Members of the House emphasised the importance of holding relevant agencies accountable, calling for a comprehensive review of JAMB’s digital infrastructure and operations. They insisted that technical errors must not be allowed to define the fate of students.

The lawmakers resolved to summon relevant stakeholders and technical experts to shed light on what went wrong and how such incidents can be prevented in future examinations.
