JUST IN: Anambra communities on edge as gunmen kill two in daylight attack

Must read

Tension gripped the Agulu-Nanka axis in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State on Thursday after unidentified gunmen allegedly shot and killed two individuals near the border separating both communities.

The incident, which reportedly happened around 10:45 a.m., saw the attackers fleeing the scene on a motorcycle, according to eyewitness accounts.

Sources suggest that the deceased may have been members of a local vigilante group reportedly formed under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for election security. However, the motive behind the assault is yet to be established.

One resident, who preferred to remain unnamed, shared that one victim was attacked inside a red saloon vehicle, while the other was gunned down while attempting to escape.

The police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, was unreachable for comment, but a senior officer confirmed the killings.

“The new Commissioner of Police is battle-ready and has dispatched operatives to track down the assailants,” he said. “We are still gathering information and will release a formal statement soon. The situation is under control.”
