In a renewed effort to rid Enugu State of criminal elements, the State Police Command has apprehended four individuals in separate sting operations for various offences, including armed robbery, cult-related activities, illicit drug dealing, and illegal arms possession.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the arrests, which occurred on May 8 and 9, underscore the enforcement strides being made under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
Recovered from the suspects were two firearms and a stash of cannabis commonly known as “Loud.”
One of the suspects, 35-year-old Ikechukwu Ugwele, popularly referred to as “Angle 90,” was nabbed by officers from the Crack Tactical Squad.
Following his arrest, operatives discovered a Beretta pistol after Ugwele reportedly admitted to past crimes and led police to the hidden weapon.
Similarly, operatives from the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad apprehended 25-year-old Emmanuel Eze, also known as “Camara.” A locally manufactured pistol was recovered after two other suspects—29-year-old Uchenna Nwudi, aka “Asai,” and 32-year-old Eze Chiadikobi—confessed to criminal involvement.
Investigations revealed that Nwudi was engaged in illegal firearm fabrication while Chiadikobi was linked to transformer vandalism. All three were confirmed to be members of the Vikings cult group.
The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
During a press briefing on May 8, CP Giwa shared that the command had arrested 291 suspects since his assumption of office in March.
These included individuals implicated in armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, cultism, and various other crimes.
The police also rescued 36 abducted victims and confiscated 44 firearms and over 170 rounds of ammunition.
CP Giwa reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining public safety and encouraged residents to remain alert and supportive of law enforcement activities.
