The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) has announced a strategic partnership with defence firm D7G to enhance local production of arms, ammunition, and military equipment.

Speaking on Tuesday in Kaduna, DICON’s Director-General, Maj. Gen. Babatunde Alaya, said the collaboration aims to elevate Nigeria’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities.

“We’ve established a solid partnership with D7G focused on advancing domestic production. This covers ammunition, firearms, military vehicles, and drone technology,” he stated.

Alaya noted that both parties have agreed on a clear roadmap and are currently working on timelines to ensure the phased rollout of production targets over the coming years.

On his part, D7G’s Chief Executive Officer, Osman Chennar, explained that the initiative includes setting up assembly lines for weapons, tactical vehicles, and unmanned aerial systems.

“We are planning to produce AK-47 and AK-103 rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, and grenade launchers,” Chennar said.

“The vehicle production unit will focus on 4×4 and 6×6 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).”

Chennar also disclosed plans to establish a drone production facility that will manufacture UAVs and anti-drone systems.

He added that Nigerian personnel would be trained to manage and operate the assembly lines, ensuring sustainability and local capacity building.
