UK police arrest man linked to setting fire to PM Starmer’s house

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a series of suspicious fires at properties linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, prompting a counter-terrorism investigation due to potential threats to public safety.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Metropolitan Police in the early hours of Tuesday on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Authorities believe the arrest may be tied to three separate incidents, including a fire that broke out early Monday at Starmer’s private residence in Kentish Town, north London.

The developing investigation also includes a smaller fire reported on Sunday at the front door of a converted flat in Islington, another property with ties to the Prime Minister.

London Fire Brigade said one individual was safely escorted from the building via an internal staircase.

A third incident occurred last Thursday, when a car caught fire on the same street as Starmer’s Kentish Town home. Police are now exploring whether all three events are connected.

Due to the potential targeting of a high-profile figure, the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command has taken over the case. While the Monday morning fire caused damage to the property’s entrance, no injuries were reported.

Speaking on Monday, the Prime Minister’s official spokesperson confirmed that Sir Keir had thanked emergency services for their swift response, but declined to comment further, citing the active status of the investigation.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, during a BBC interview on Tuesday, acknowledged she had been briefed on the matter and expressed full confidence in the police handling of the situation.

“These incidents are being thoroughly investigated, and I fully support the efforts of our law enforcement agencies,” she stated.

The arrested man remains in police custody as the probe continues. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive or whether the suspect has any known ties to extremist activity.
