Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the immediate recruitment of 17,600 security personnel to strengthen safety across public schools in the state.

This was disclosed on Monday in a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.

During an official engagement in Kano, Governor Yusuf said the initiative would deploy 400 security guards in each of the state’s 44 local government areas.

According to him, the move is designed to create a safer learning environment and protect both students and teachers from growing security threats.

“Our administration is fully committed to ensuring the safety of children and educators,” the governor stated.

“We must not allow insecurity to disrupt the future of our young ones.”

The guards will undergo proper training and will be positioned at strategic points in schools.

Their responsibilities will include monitoring school entrances, identifying suspicious behavior, and working closely with established security agencies when necessary.

This security push is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at revamping the educational sector in Kano.

Other steps taken by the state government include the installation of solar power in 200 public schools, the distribution of learning materials, and plans to offer permanent jobs to qualified staff under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed that his administration’s priorities include security, education, and youth development.

He urged parents, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders to collaborate with the government to ensure that children have access to safe and quality education.
